Abstract

Semiconductor technologies are critical to modern digital infrastructure and economic development. Countries worldwide are investing in semiconductor research, chip design, and manufacturing to strengthen technological independence and economic competitiveness. Pakistan has recently initiated several national programs aimed at building domestic capabilities in semiconductor design and research. This paper reviews the present state of chip technology development in Pakistan, highlighting government initiatives, academic research activities, and emerging industry trends. Key challenges such as infrastructure limitations, skill shortages, and research capacity gaps are also examined. Finally, future opportunities and strategic priorities are discussed to outline pathways for Pakistan’s participation in the global semiconductor value chain.
